The late former Senator William V. Roth, (who the Roth Ira is named after), served five terms as the Senator from Delaware.

Former Senator Roth served in WW 11 in Army Intelligence in the Pacific and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious conduct. When he returned from the conflict, he entered Harvard to successfully become a lawyer.

Originally from Montana, he moved to Delaware in 1954, and in 1966 won his first seat in Congress. He served two terms before taking over the vacated Senate seat. During his tenure as Senator, William Roth was known for fighting for the American Taxpayer. He advocated balanced budgets and had a keen interest in international relations and the environment. He was known for his willingness to share the credit with others and did not seek fame for the job he was doing. Former Senator Roth was relentless in his pursuit of tax cuts and tax payer abuses by the Irs and co-authored the Kemp-Roth tax cuts in 1981. One of his first endeavours when he was elected to the Senate was a comprehensive search through Government Agencies and listed grants, and small business loans available to the American Public.
